DIO: Goldy's Departure "Amicable", Financially Motivated
January 23, 2002According to Ken Boyd of Man On A Silver Mountain unofficial DIO web site, guitarist Craig Goldy was forced to quit DIO due to pressures resulting from his full-time job of managing a limo company while attempting to complete work on the band's forthcoming CD, rumored to be titled Kill The Dragon, during nightly sessions at a Los Angeles-area recording studio. “The split was on good terms,” stated Boyd. “Craig informed Ronnie a while back that he would NOT be touring again, but that he would stay and finish the CD. Well, apparently this proved to be too straining while he was working ridiculous hours between the limo company and writing with Ronnie — he needed to work during the day because Ronnie couldn't afford to pay him and Craig has a family to support now...anyway it just got to be a bit too much for him and he had to leave.” As previously reported, Goldy has now been replaced in the DIO line-up by former HURRICANE/LION axeman Doug Aldrich, who is currently in the studio re-recording the guitar tracks for the upcoming release.
